Mosaics and plates
A couple of years ago I went on a mosaic workshop. I really enjoyed learning about the different materials and techniques. I hadn't done any more mosaic work (I just never seem to have enough time!), but recently decided that it is something that I would like to try again.
I like the idea of using recycled materials, so decided to go to a few car boot sales to buy some cheap plates that I can break up and use in my mosaics. I have so far purchased 10 plates and have since found out that 6 of them are actually good quality and maybe too nice to break up! One of them dates from around 1870. I have really enjoyed trying to find out more information about the plates I bought, although I now don't know what to do with them. I am also going to used some of my fused glass that went wrong to add some extra dimension. It's also a great way of using up glass, rather than wasting it.
I want to make some nice things for the garden. I have seen lots of projects on YouTube and on various websites that I really want to try. There is no end to the designs that can be created in mosaic, and I think that they can look pretty fab.
I am going to carry on with the car booting, and also check out some charity shops. It's really good fun having a rummage in lots pf places, and you never know what you will find. I love the idea that my mosaics will have had an unknown previous life. Hopefully I will also find some plates that I can actually bear to break up!
